Eric Schmidt Discusses the Dangers of A.I.
The first time I interviewed Eric Schmidt, a dozen years ago when he was the C.E.O. of Google, I had a simple question about the technology that has grown capable of spying on and monetizing all our movements, opinions, relationships, and tastes. “Friend or foe?” I asked. “We claim we’re friends,” Schmidt replied coolly.
What Is the Future of the Internet of Things?
AIoT: When AI Meets the Internet of Things The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology helping us to reimagine daily life, but artificial intelligence (AI) is the real driving force behind the IoT’s full potential.
From its most basic applications of tracking our fitness levels to its wide-reaching potential across industries and urban planning, the growing partnership between AI and the IoT means that a smarter future could occur sooner than we think.
This infographic by TSMC highlights the breakthrough technologies and trends making that shift possible, and how we’re continuing to push the boundaries.
What Makes Smart Cities Smart
In general, cities and habitats are posing a dire need to be more connected, more innovative, and more citizen-centric. Technology has played -and will continue to play- a significant role in designing solutions to address the problem statements that citizens and the authorities face. But when looking to develop or transform into a smart city, we need to not just address the current challenges the city is facing, but also scale it to its maximum potential.
Supercharge Your Battery-Powered IoT Devices
oT devices are becoming smaller for portability giving rise to battery-powered devices. These changes in the technology landscape are leading us toward a power revolution. A revolution that brings about longer battery life, super-fast battery charging with more sustainable and environmentally-friendly battery materials.
Tech Experts Share What You Need to Know About the Internet of Things
To learn more about what IoT is, what’s currently happening in the field and how the Cox Connected Environments Collaboratory is integrating IoT into its processes, we checked in with three experts: Brian Nickell, product and integration lead for Smart Communities at Cox2M; Matt Shorts, head of product and technology at Cox2M; and Chris Richardson, deputy CIO of product ownership and leadership development at Arizona State University.
Abductive Inference Is a Major Blind Spot for AI
Recent advances in deep learning have rekindled interest in the imminence of machines that can think and act like humans, or artificial general intelligence. By following the path of building bigger and better neural networks, the thinking goes, we will be able to get closer and closer to creating a digital version of the human brain.
Incorporating IoT in Education: Applications & Benefits
As opportunities for IoT applications continue to expand, the unique benefits of IoT in education will grow as well. IoT devices are currently being used to create enhanced educational environments for students of all ages, and there are many creative opportunities for IoT applications to make a positive impact in school settings.

Applied AI & AIoT Community
AppliedAI is a monthly meetup that develops the next generation of experts by educating citizens of all ages in the tools, processes, and applications that are needed to implement solutions that use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). The organization runs regular events that involve training, learning, and sharing real-world projects where AI is applied to solve problems that impact our lives.

Microsoft Is Giving Businesses Access to OpenAI’s Powerful AI Language Model GPT-3
It’s the AI system once deemed too dangerous to release to the public by its creators. Now, Microsoft is making an upgraded version of the program, OpenAI’s autocomplete software GPT-3, available to business customers as part of its suite of Azure cloud tools.
Facebook Is Shutting Down Its Face Recognition Tagging Program
Meta (formerly known as Facebook) is discontinuing Facebook’s Face Recognition feature following a lengthy privacy battle. Meta says the change will roll out in the coming weeks. As part of it, the company will stop using facial recognition algorithms to tag people in photographs and videos, and it will delete the facial recognition templates that it uses for identification.
Producing Change With Leading Indicators, AI and IoT
Artificial intelligence. The internet of things (IoT). Data lakes. The manufacturing industry is fixated on vague technological terms. While new technology is crucial, it’s the behavioural and organisational change that follows which truly brings about digital transformation.
IoT and artificial intelligence (AI) will fundamentally change the factory floor by providing manufacturers with real-time, leading indicators.
The Convergence: Artificial Intelligence and IoT
Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is the next key step for IoT – transforming the process of analyzing data and turning it into action.
IoT will help with a new generation of AI enablement due to the aggregation nature of IoT. At its core, IoT is gathering massive amounts of data. And as that data is processed through the data-hungry algorithms of AI, the analytical and action parts of IoT will be greatly enhanced.
AI Adds Smarts to IoT Platforms
The Internet of Things’ killer app might be artificial intelligence.
While it may be a stretch to classify Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its multifaceted offshoot machine learning as true applications, these techs can profoundly change IoT operations. AI makes IoT networks smarter and able to scale as needed without the risk of uncontrollable growth.
Microsoft Acquires AI-Powered Moderation Platform Two Hat
Microsoft today announced that it acquired Two Hat, an AI-powered content moderation platform, for an undisclosed amount. According to Xbox product services CVP Dave McCarthy, the purchase will combine the technology, research capabilities, teams, and cloud infrastructure of both companies to serve Two Hat’s existing and new customers and “multiple product and service experiences: at Microsoft.

Amazon Is Reportedly Working on a Smart Fridge
Amazon might be working on its own smart fridge, according to a new report from Insider. "Project Pulse," as the project is titled internally, is reportedly being developed by the same Amazon "physical-stores unit" that worked on the company's high-tech Amazon Go stores.
Project Pulse "is designed to track your inventory and purchase habits, predict what you want, and have it delivered," Insider writes. The fridge could also track expiration dates, suggest recipes based on the products in your fridge, and offer an easy way to order more food from an Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods grocery store.

GitHub Claims Its AI Assistant Is Helping Devs Write 30% of Their Code
GitHub announced its AI-assisted code writing feature called Copilot back in June. On the eve of its GitHub Universe conference starting today, the company said that the AI is now helping to write 30% of code on the platform. In an interview with Axios, Oege de Moor, VP of GitHub Next — the team that works on the copilot function — said that 50% of devs who’ve tried it have kept using it.
