Greetings IoT Weekly News readers!
The big talk this week was the acquisition of Jasper by Cisco for 1.4 billion. That's a large chunk of change to put down for a company and is a sign that investments in the Internet of Things software companies are still very lucrative.
Regarding software and the IoT, I hosted my first IoT Real Time Insights Podcast this past week on In-Memory Data Grids with the CEO of ScaleOut Software. It's a fun discussion and we are already working on an amazing conversation for our second edition!
Hope you enjoy this issue and please tweet it to your followers!

Cisco to acquire IoT specialist Jasper for $1.4bn
This is a massive deal and earns the top story for this week. I was actually just talking with an colleague in the industry the day before the news on this broke and was asking, "I wonder what Jasper is up to with the IoT?" Looks like Cisco answered my question.
App Fatigue Is Killing the Internet of Things (and My Phone Battery)
A humorous rant on how having a thousand different apps to control the things in our lives will kill the Internet of Things. In many ways, this is a sign that in the future. We won't need apps for this stuff; our technology will learn, adjust and adapt to how we live and work.
Industry 'Whales' Race to Dominate the IoT Market
Interview with Maribel Lopez from the Dell 1-5-10 event in San Francisco. The big talk at the event is about the IoT platforms and who will end up dominating in that area. Great conversation and perspective.
2016: The Year of the Chief IoT Officer?
I don't personally believe it, but the article states that, "companies from Dell to Machina Research are saying that 2016 will be the year of the Chief IoT Officer (CIoTO), with Machina predicting that this year at least one Fortune 500 company will appoint a Chief IoT Officer." Read on and decide what you think!

How Intel Corporation's Internet of Things Business Is Doing In 4 Numbers
The title tells it all. In short, it's all about number of devices, cost per microchip, revenue and operating income. Intel is pushing hard in this space and I recall the CEO stating last year that, "by 2016 we will have chips that are size of buttons." Looks like we are there.
How Internet of Things Will Change Digital Marketing
I enjoyed this article as it reaffirms some of the beliefs that I feel show the common aspects of the Internet of Things and product companies understanding how the customers use their products.
How To Prepare For The Internet Of Things
This one is from a few weeks back, but I thought it was a good primer for companies looking at the landscape and beginning to think about where the Internet of Things can provide value.

Fun article talking about some ways that technology and specifically connected devices are already impacting our lives.
Super Bowl Viewers Meet The Internet Of Things
I loved seeing the Amazon Echo's commercials being run prominently leading up to and during the Super Bowl this past weekend. I believe that this device is something that people will look back in a few years and realize that it was genius for Amazon to release. It also has great potential to make consumers more interested in the potential of what smart enabled devices can do in their home.
