The big talk this week was the acquisition of Jasper by Cisco for 1.4 billion. That's a large chunk of change to put down for a company and is a sign that investments in the Internet of Things software companies are still very lucrative.
Regarding software and the IoT, I hosted my first IoT Real Time Insights Podcast this past week on In-Memory Data Grids with the CEO of ScaleOut Software. It's a fun discussion and we are already working on an amazing conversation for our second edition!

This is a massive deal and earns the top story for this week. I was actually just talking with an colleague in the industry the day before the news on this broke and was asking, "I wonder what Jasper is up to with the IoT?" Looks like Cisco answered my question.

The title tells it all. In short, it's all about number of devices, cost per microchip, revenue and operating income. Intel is pushing hard in this space and I recall the CEO stating last year that, "by 2016 we will have chips that are size of buttons." Looks like we are there.
