Google Chrome Is Getting AI Features for Organizing Tabs and Custom Themes
Chrome is going to become an AI tool as much as a web browser — but Google’s starting small for now. Google’s Chrome browser is leaning into AI in a big way. Rather than just shove a Bard sidebar into the browser, Google is rolling out a couple of features that tap into its models to hopefully make your browser a little more pleasant to use. OpenAI Announces First Partnership With a University
OpenAI on Thursday announced its first partnership with a higher education institution. Starting in February, Arizona State University will have full access to ChatGPT Enterprise and plans to use it for coursework, tutoring, research, and more. The partnership has been in the works for at least six months when ASU Chief Information Officer Lev Gonick first visited OpenAI’s HQ, which was preceded by the university faculty and staff’s earlier use of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools, Gonick told CNBC in an interview.
Meta Begins Training Llama 3, Reshuffles AI Responsibilities
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday that the company has started training Llama 3, the next generation of its primary generative AI model. He also reaffirmed the company's commitment to releasing its AI models via open source — when possible — and said the company is once again shaking up its AI org chart.

Chinese Startup 01.AI Is Winning the Open Source AI Race
Meta shook up the race to build more powerful artificial intelligence last July by releasing Llama 2, an AI model similar to the one behind ChatGPT, for anyone to download and use. In November, a little-known startup from Beijing, 01.AI, released its open-source model that outperforms Llama 2 and scores near the top of many leaderboards used to compare the power of AI models.
