Welcome! I've found a ton of interesting stories this week on the Internet of Things: Real-time streaming of data, what parts of the industry are looking to be the most profitable, smart industrial applications and a number of fun development products to try out.

The IoTFuse:Conference 2016, which I am one of the co-founders is occurring this Friday! In our second year, this is by far the largest IoT conference in the upper-midwest. I'm super excited to be part of creating such an amazing event. I'll also be speaking at MinneBar the following day on Google's Prediction API and the Analyze This! group I co-founded is meeting April 27th. I hope to see you at one of these events!

IBM Disrupts the Tour De France with IoT

I did a podcast a few weeks ago on Quarks and the promise that it brings. I've been doing some fun stuff with it in my lab and find it to be extremely powerful. This is a neat article on how they are digging through and trying to understand massive datasets in a real-time system such as the Tour De France.

Why HealthTech Will Be the Most Profitable Industry in 2016

Good article on how technology and heath care are becoming so intertwined that IoT and so called, "MedTech" solutions are where people will be spending a lot of time and money. The article notes a technology accelerator by Cedars-Sinai as one example.

Great article about why many of the optimistic predictions we have around the Internet of Things could be wrong.

IoT Investment Bulks up in 2nd Best Quarter Ever

With all the interest and growth in IoT, I'm not sure why this last quarter wasn't the best quarter as opposed to the 2nd best? However, the article does highlight those companies who are doing the investing. As expected, these are not small companies.

Regardless of if you are talking about new construction or retro-filling old buildings, this is a good article on the steps and thought process one should be putting into place to build out smart infrastructure.

Smart Water Metering Application

I find this interesting as it's one of the first of many Low Power Wide Area Network IoT applications being brought to the industrial internet. With new technology being able to send and receive data 50+ km away the game has changed on remote deployment and sensing. There's only bigger applications to follow!

Why Did Intel Corporation Launch A $15 Internet of Things Computer?

Intel released the Edison more than a year ago to get developers interested in their platform. It was buggy, had lots of quirks getting setup and I would argue had low adoption. With Microsoft and Qualcomm now fulling in the game, Intel is at it again. The price point is definitely right and I'll be picking up some for my lab.

Open-Source, Cross-Platform Automation Platform for the Internet of Things

Hobson is a free, open-source platform that provides interoperability for smart devices and the Internet of Things. I like the open-source nature of this. It's a free download and worth exploring.

LoRaONE Internet of Things Development Board

This looks really interesting. If you haven't heard before the LoRa Alliance is quickly emerging as the standard to be using wide area networks around the IoT. The promise of having something like this built and easy to use will spread adoption.

SmartThings community in uproar over loss of Rule Machine

As quoted in the article, "The highly popular Rule Machine for SmartThings allowed for creating sophisticated automations, but the community developer has now yanked it in protest of the 'ongoing serious degradation of the SmartThings platform.'"
