Justin Grammens
Welcome! I decided to focus much of this issue on articles in the areas of Analytics, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence as these are driving some unique applications in the IoT. I also pulled in a few fun stories on developing for the Internet of Things and a startup, called Flarean which I've been working with as their Chief Technical Officer had a story written about us this week.
Hope you enjoy this issue and please tweet it to your followers!

Everything You Know About Artificial Intelligence is Wrong
I found this a fun and interesting read. While not specifically on devices or the more core areas of the Internet of Things, the article does cover some industrial applications at the end.
The Internet Of Things And Machine Learning
Good article on how automation and intelligence is going to affect the future of the Internet of Things. This is an area I've been exploring over the last year as it's the actions one can take based on the data that provide value in the IoT. IBM and Google are cited as key players in this space, but obviously Microsoft and Amazon are pouring a ton of money in as well.
St. Paul Tech Startup's Mission Is to Light the Way
This is a new startup, named Flarean is building smart messaging systems using lighting for cities and other entities.

Business
The "Internet of Things" Is Changing the Way We Look at the Global Product Value Chain
I really like this article as it hits the differentiating factors of the IoT with the quote, "By opening new channels for B2C communication, IoT products are providing manufacturers an invaluable opportunity to reshape a dusty and outdated product value chain"
Internet of Things, Analytics Expected to Push U.S. Ahead of China for Manufacturing
2020 still seems very far away and hard to predict that far out, but this article cites from a report by Deloitte, "The U.S. is expected to move up from No. 2 to No. 1 in manufacturing by 2020 due to the digital transformation of manufacturing and business."
Big Data
TeradataVoice: IoT Basics: Defining "Analytics Of Things"
Interesting and short article looking at the so called, "Analytics of Things" and "Operations of Things". I agreed with the main point that the IoT has changed the value of data from the edge, as now we can aggregate it with data from a whole host of other sources.
When Will the Analytics of Things Grow Up?
Good article that covers the Prescriptive and Descriptive side of Analytics and what this all means for the Internet of Things.
Big Data: Applying Machine Learning to Event Processing
A good overview of the architecture and key technologies being used today in the area of real time and streaming of data.
Industrial
Industrial IoT Could Be Multi-Trillion Dollar Godzilla Market of the Future - ReadWrite
This article reinforces some of the points that I have been making for years: It's the industrial side of IoT that is the most profitable in the the near term. It's odd sometimes to think of large businesses as early adopter of new technology, but if there's money to be made from a new process it really I guess isn't all that strange.
Development
Project: Raspberry Pi + Alexa Voice Service
This project demonstrates how to access and test the Alexa Voice Service using a Java client (running on a Raspberry Pi), and a Node.js server. Happy hacking!
Samsung Developing IoT OS
I'm already well aware of their existing open standards based OS called Tizen, but I guess something bigger is coming at the end of April.
Why The Internet Of Things Might Never Speak A Common Language
This is an article from a few weeks back, but I thought it relevant to this issues as without some level of basic standards, systems are not easy to extend and bring in more data to provide ROI.
